Dear %PERS_NAME%

Did You Know... the 'lappet-faced' is the largest and most powerful of the five species of vulture recorded in South Luangwa? In recent years the world population of this species has declined rapidly, largely due to human activities. Habitat destruction and cultivation, disturbance of nesting sites and ingestion of pesticides, have all contributed to the reduction in numbers. In some areas these birds have been poisoned by poachers, who fear the presence of vultures will alert authorities to their illegal activities. They are considered "vulnerable" at the species level, with an estimated world population of under 9,000 individuals.
