At 2pm on the 10th of January, Mfuwe Lodge said farewell to its last guests (who, incidentally, had all seen lion, leopard and wild dog!) After being open for more or less 12 years, without a break, the lodge closed until May for a major refurbishment programme to take place. By 2.05pm the annual party for all lodge and bush camp staff got underway….
As a reward for their efforts during the year, the staff, along with wives and children, were invited to enjoy a few drinks, a meal, and given the opportunity to show off their dancing skills. Around 300 people attended and directors, managers and senior staff were kept very busy as barmen, waiters…and eventually taxi drivers! There was a great atmosphere with lots of laughter and high spirits….and some very inventive dance moves (with limbs no doubt loosened by several helpings of Mtimba’s lethal punch!)
Undeterred by a few sore heads, most of the staff turned up next morning to take to the bush on an early game drive. In keeping with most of our guests they had some great sightings…including two prides of lions!
