Did You Know... Two thousand years ago over one million lions roamed over Africa, the Middle East and even into Pakistan and India? By the 1940’s around 450,000 could still be found throughout Africa Today, it is estimated that less than 25,000 still survive. This huge reduction has been attributed to loss of habitat, prey decline, disease, the use of pesticides, poaching and hunting. Conservation and research agencies in South Luangwa continue to monitor lion numbers. Click here to read news of the latest initiative.
