Did You Know... male giraffes are able to assess an opponent's size and strength through sparring behavior known as "necking"? Duels begin when two males approach each other and engage in rubbing and intertwining their necks. Although these bouts rarely end in physical harm, the sweeping movements of the head and neck can become more violent and powerful until one male submits, or is even knocked to the ground.
