Did you know... although the Luangwa Valley is home to the pangolin, confirmed sightings of this elusive, nocturnal mammal are very rare indeed? Imagine the excitement and delight of the guests and staff when one of these peculiar animals made a totally unexpected visit to the grounds of Mfuwe Lodge!

Pangolins, also known as scaly anteaters, are unique creatures that are covered in hard, plate-like scales. Their name is derived from the Malay word "pengguling", which loosely translates to "something that rolls up".
