Did you know... the Luangwa valley is regarded as one of Africa's last remaining strongholds for large carnivores? These predators are a vital part of the ecosystem and help to maintain a balance of other mammal species. Ongoing research and monitoring is an important part of conservation efforts, and in the South Luangwa the work of the "Zambian Carnivore Programme" is helping to maintain healthy populations. Carnivores often compete for food... and for radio collars it seems... as witnessed recently by Mfuwe Lodge guests!
