Did you know... the Luangwa Valley's unique sub-species, the Thornicroft's Giraffe, has an extremely wide and varied diet? Giraffes are browsing herbivores, and have been recorded feeding on over a hundred varieties of vegetation. They select mainly leaves and buds on trees and shrubs, but herbs, climbers, flowers, fruit and vines are also eaten. The tongue, lips and palate are tough enough to deal with the sharp thorns that protect many of their favourite trees.
