Did you know... this is the time of year when the first migrant Southern Carmine Bee-eaters start to arrive in the Luangwa Valley? These spectacular birds arrive in their thousands and nest in the sandy riverbanks in large colonies, digging metre long tunnels which end in nesting chambers. As the chicks hatch and grow they are fed on a variety of insects which emerge with the first rains in November.
