Did you know... this is a great time of year to see lots of elephants in South Luangwa as they congregate near the last remaining water and fruiting trees?

Throughout Africa, whilst elephant numbers are declining, population figures are often unclear. A two year project, "The Great Elephant Census" is currently underway, and is designed to provide accurate, up-to-date data about the number and distribution of African elephants using aerial surveys, covering more than 18 countries. This will account for about 80 percent of the savanna elephant range and allow for counting roughly 90 percent of their population.
