Did you know... elephants effectively walk on tiptoe? The sole of an elephant's foot is made of a tough, fatty connective tissue which acts like a spongy shock absorber and allows the elephant to move about almost silently? The sole is also ridged and pitted which give the elephant more stability and grip when moving over a variety of terrains.
