Dear subscriber

Did you know... by issuing guests with re-usable, biodegradable bottles, using filtered water dispensers, and having pure, tested, borehole water on tap, the Bushcamp Company has reduced its consumption of bottled drinking water by over 17,000 bottles per year? Our aim in 2017 is to increase this number to over 20,000.

This is why...

  • Out of the 50 billion bottles of water being bought each year, 80% are not recycled and end up in landfill sites.
  • Plastic water bottles take over 1,000 years to break down and incineration produces toxic fumes.
  • Plastic bottles account for a large percentage of the world's litter, which often ends up in the seas and on beaches. One recent study predicts that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the world's oceans.
  • Bottled water is expensive... Globally, over $100 billion is spent on bottled water every year.
  • Bottled water costs roughly 1,000 times more than tap water.
  • About 90% of the manufacturer's cost goes to making the bottle, label, and cap.
  • The equivalent of about 50 million barrels of oil is used for the processing, transport, and refrigeration of bottled water every year.
  • It takes 162 grams of oil and 7 litres of water just to manufacture a 1 litre plastic bottle.
  • In spite of all the negative effects, world consumption of bottled water in 2017 is predicted to be 391 billion litres, almost double that of 10 years ago.
