Join award-winning wildlife photographer Isak Pretorius for a photographic safari into the heart of Zambia’s emerald season.

Based in South Luangwa National Park—famed as The Valley of Leopards—this exclusive experience offers a chance to photograph big cats, wild dogs, baby animals, and some of Africa’s most elusive birds, including the African Pitta and Pel’s Fishing Owl.

With only six guests across two vehicles and access from the beautifully situated Mfuwe Lodge, you’ll enjoy uncrowded sightings and expert photographic guidance. December and January bring dramatic skies, lush greenery, and a wilderness bursting with life—perfect conditions for creating striking and memorable images.

What to expect

Join us for seven nights as we explore South Luangwa during its most vibrant and photogenic season. Our focus will be on capturing incredible wildlife moments—ranging from apex predators like leopards and wild dogs to rare birds such as the African Pitta and Pel’s Fishing Owl.

Daily game drives will offer exceptional photographic opportunities in the lush, green landscape. In the evenings, we’ll gather for image reviews, photographic discussions, and wildlife storytelling with Isak. This is a relaxed yet focused experience designed to inspire, improve your photography, and immerse you in the magic of Zambia’s emerald season.

We will embark on game drives each day. In the evenings, we’ll have presentations and discussions about leopards, and all the proceeds from the festival will be donated directly to leopard projects including ZCP!
