A Brief Overview.

A Legacy of Conservation and Community Work For 27 years, The Bushcamp Company has made its mission to make the communities around South Luangwa stronger and fund conservation work that protects and researches wildlife.  By delivering authentic, low-impact safari experiences in a one-of-a-kind circuit of camps, BCC has become a genuine force for conservation and community upliftment in the valley.

Synopsis of Our Work.

"Tourism, properly managed, can be one of the most powerful tools of conservation" - Norman Carr

  • Our earliest initiatives began with Chiwawatala Primary School in Mfuwe Village and Chilongozi Primary School near our bushcamps.
  • Instrumental in launching the Luangwa Conservation and Community Fund, a local charity that 11 South Luangwa safari operators support today.
  • Founded Charity Begins at Home to fund boreholes, school meals, new classrooms, tree planting, and scholarships for local children.
  • Launched Stewards of the Wild and Keyrings/Curios for Conservation to directly support critical anti‑poaching work and park infrastructure.
  • Construct and Maintain select DNPW roads and infrastructure inside South Luangwa National Park.
  • Established a large Farm that supplies most of the fresh produce used in our camps.
  • Thank You.

The Bushcamp Company has helped shape modern responsible safari tourism in Zambia and has built a legacy that will benefit wildlife, communities, and future guests in the Luangwa Valley for decades to come.

Our conservation work is largely made possible by each of you, our guests and our trade, government, and conservation partners.  We cannot thank all of you enough.

    How Your Safari Helps.

Every safari with The Bushcamp Company contributes directly to conservation and community initiatives in the Luangwa Valley. A portion of each guest’s stay includes conservation and community contributions, which support the Luangwa Conservation & Community Fund (LCCF) and partner organizations working on the ground to protect wildlife, support local schools, and strengthen community livelihoods. Guests may also choose to support additional initiatives such as our Keyrings for Conservation programme, where a small voluntary contribution helps fund projects across the valley while providing a handcrafted keepsake of your visit. Together, these contributions ensure that tourism continues to play a meaningful role in protecting South Luangwa’s wildlife and supporting the communities who live alongside it.

    Supporting Local Schools.

Guests visiting the Luangwa Valley often ask how they can support the schools we work with outside of making donations to our 501-c3 charity that works with Charity Begins at Home. If you have space in your luggage, we welcome donations of small educational supplies that can be used as motivational prizes for students at local schools. Suggested items include: • pens, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners • pencil cases and calculators • wind-up torches • card games and arts & crafts materials • balloons and stickers • footballs and sports kits • laptops These small contributions can make a meaningful difference in encouraging education and achievement.

A Shared Future for the Luangwa.

For generations, the Luangwa Valley has inspired explorers, conservationists, and travelers seeking one of Africa’s last truly wild places. It is a story written by the wildlife that roam these plains, the communities who live alongside them, and the travelers who come here seeking something truly wild.

Today, that legacy continues through the partnership between conservation, local communities, and responsible tourism. By joining us on safari, you become part of this story—helping ensure that the wildlife, wilderness, and communities of the Luangwa Valley continue to thrive for generations to come.
