The Gateway to South Luangwa

Mfuwe Lodge is The Bushcamp Company’s iconic gateway to South Luangwa — the ideal place to begin or end a bushcamp circuit. Set between two lagoons just inside the park entrance, the lodge offers an immediate sense of arrival into the valley, with wildlife often visible from the main areas and private decks. Hippos, warthogs, antelope, baboons, giraffes, buffalo, and elephants are all part of daily life here. With 18 chalets, a family house, and a spa, Mfuwe Lodge pairs generous space and warm hospitality with one of South Luangwa’s most unforgettable wildlife moments: the elephants that wander through reception during mango season. On its own, it is a remarkable safari stay. As part of The Bushcamp Company circuit, it is the natural gateway to a deeper journey into South Luangwa.

Experiences.

Elephants in Reception

Each year, between late October and mid-December, entire elephant families wander through Mfuwe Lodge’s reception to feast on fallen wild mangoes—a spectacle so iconic it’s become legend.

Game Drives

Explore the rich diversity and incredible wildlife of the South Luangwa on a game drive. On four wheels, you’ll cover as much of the region as possible and maximise your game-viewing.

Walking Safaris

The walking safari was born in the South Luangwa, so it’s only fitting that many of your outings will be on foot with the very finest guides in our exclusive 140,000 acre section of the park.

Sundowners

As the sun sinks below the horizon, there is nothing better than finding a spectacular spot in the heart of the bush for an ice-cold drink and something to nibble on.
