A True Classic Safari Experience.

Tucked beneath ancient winterthorn trees along the Kapamba River, Zungulila offers one of the most remote safari experiences in South Luangwa. Four elegant Meru-style safari tents overlook a wide floodplain where elephants, antelope, and buffalo move freely through the landscape. Renowned for its walking safaris, Zungulila allows guests to explore the wilderness on foot with some of the valley’s most experienced guides before returning to camp for relaxed afternoons and evening game drives. With few neighboring camps and vast wilderness in every direction, Zungulila offers a safari that feels wonderfully wild and deeply connected to nature.

Experiences.

Elephants in Reception

Each year, between late October and mid-December, entire elephant families wander through Mfuwe Lodge’s reception to feast on fallen wild mangoes—a spectacle so iconic it’s become legend.

Game Drives

Explore the rich diversity and incredible wildlife of the South Luangwa on a game drive. On four wheels, you’ll cover as much of the region as possible and maximise your game-viewing.

Walking Safaris

The walking safari was born in the South Luangwa, so it’s only fitting that many of your outings will be on foot with the very finest guides in our exclusive 140,000 acre section of the park.

Sundowners

As the sun sinks below the horizon, there is nothing better than finding a spectacular spot in the heart of the bush for an ice-cold drink and something to nibble on.

In Summary

The furthest camp in the BCC circuit and the one guests are most surprised by — Zungulila sits above the sweeping Kapamba River plain in one of the most remote and untouched corners of South Luangwa. Refurbished in 2024 and beautifully appointed, it combines the soul of a classic African bushcamp with every comfort you could need, deep in wilderness that feels entirely its own. Dinners under the stars, walking safaris at dawn, and buffalo herds moving across the plain — Zungulila is what people mean when they talk about the real Africa.
